Earth Day 2011: Lighten Up
Join Simply Living as we celebrate Earth Day 2011: Lighten Up. Simply Living is hosting a worksite again in the university neighborhood, with Maynard Ave. Church being the check-in place (2350 Indianola Ave). Work days are scheduled throughout Franklin County on both Saturday and Sunday, April 16 & 17, and we will work from 8 a.m. to noon on Sat., April 16th. We'll beautify the small city park at Summit and Maynard Ave. and scour the neighborhood with trash bags and visions of a litter-free neighborhood. Please register for our worksite or choose another site close to you at lightenup2011.org. We welcome your bringing small hand tools for weeding, gloves for litter clean-up, and friends!
The Earth Day celebration takes place from 11am to 10pm on Saturday, April 23rd on the grounds of Franklin Park Conservatory. We're seeking helpers at the Simply Living booth from 11am to 7:30pm, with booths closing at dusk. (We also need people to come early to help set up.)
You are invited to host/organize/lead your own community service projects with an environmental basis (such as tree planting, invasive species removal, litter pick up, rain garden installation, etc). We invite SL members to share any projects in which you are involved and are seeking helpers through our listserv. Remember - ***Last year we were THE Franklin County organization with the most volunteers out and about to green our communities!.
All projects taking place on April 16 or 17 are eligible to register as official Earth Day worksites and are entitled to a variety of support offered by Green Columbus. For more information on hosting a worksite, visit the Green Columbus website: greencbus.org
