Participate in exercises to see if you’re spending your time in ways that reflect your core values and, if you find you’re not, explore ways to change this that better reflect how you want to live your life. Book of the Week: When the Biomass Hits the Wind Turbine: How we got ourselves into this mess, and how we are going to get out of it
Are you ready for a future of unlimited energy? Jay Warmke, of Blue Rock Station fame, is the author of this fascinating book, just released on Earth Day. Jay offers predictions for the coming two decades, as the BioMass Hits the Wind Turbine. For example: Why the electric car will come to dominate transportation within 15 years. Why all the media hype regarding the “recent natural gas boom” is just that – hype. We may soon be seeing a 3-5 fold increase in prices, and shortages resulting in massive imports of natural gas. Some boom, eh? How the line between consumer and supplier of power will disappear – and the utility of the future may look very much like FaceBook. And ultimately, why energy will be free in the not too distant future. I’m reading it now -highly recommended.

Simply Living will feature Jay at our Second Friday Social, July 13, at the Earth Block House!

Geeks Giving Back! Applications Are Now Being Accepted for Give Camp 2012 – Deadline May 22
GiveCamp is a weekend-long event where software developers, designers, and database administrators donate their time to create custom software for non-profit organizations. This custom software could be a new website for the nonprofit organization, a small data-collection application to keep track of members, etc. The only limitation is that the project should be scoped to be able to be completed in a weekend. Chosen Non-profits should be prepared to send the same representative(s) for the Friday night (opening ceremony & planning session), some Saturday (work) and Sunday morning (for the closing/presentation). It’s also nice to give them cell access for direct communication when you can’t be there. FYI – NPO reps. are welcome to sleep over, but it’s not necessary. Just recognizing that the team of 5-10 volunteers giving up their weekend to customize an application will only be as good as the info. they get from you!! This is a great way for NPOs to get up to 300 hours of really expensive database/website work for cheap. Please share w/ your NPO contacts and help us spread the word. More info: <http://www.columbusgivecamp.org/>. Deadline for online application is May 22.

Kittens and Mama Cat up for Adoption!
We found Rizzo, a stray cat in the German Village when she was pregnant back in December. The kittens are now about 15 weeks and need good homes! They are all very friendly and litter box trained. They love to play and curl up on your lap to take a nap. We are also looking for a good home for mama. She is also very friendly, calm, easy-going, and pretty much the best cat ever. She is happy cuddling and playing and she’s a sucker for cat nip. No behavior problems at all (not so much as a scratch or a hiss the entire 5 months we’ve had her) and she would be a great indoor or outdoor cat. None of them have their shots but Rizzo has been tested for worms and feline leukemia and is negative on both. She was recently spayed. We have spent about $80 per kitten on their care thus far, and are asking folks to pay an adoption fee on a sliding scale between $20-80 depending on what they can afford. For Rizzo, we are asking $50-100 to cover the cost of the spaying and veterinary care. If the price is your only reservation, please get in touch anyway! Please e-mail kellypklein@gmail.com or call 443-745-1529 if you are seriously interested, tell me a little about yourself (history with cats/pets, living situation, etc.) and I will be in touch! Thank you!
